Description
In this assignment for Critical Issues in Design, I took a brand’s product with harmful packaging and conceptualized an environmentally-conscious redesign. My choice was a coloured pencil
set from Prismacolor, which was contained entirely in a plastic casing. Since buyers will usually take the crayons out of the case and keep them in a separate bag, that means more plastic
waste is produced. I needed to create a package that could be either recyclable, reusable,
or biodegradable.
A few options were considered, including a drawstring bag, a cardboard box, and a cardboard tube, which was selected for the final design. Another important aspect was converting the copy (both in English and French) from the original package, as well as the required logos and disclaimers, to this new format. This project taught me that being a designer means you have the ability to make a positive change.
