Description
Before the start of my second year, I challenged myself to design a display typeface, which I named Riverview. Inspired by the Rodfat Two typeface, the name ‘Riverview’ refers to the Niagara Region’s waterways. The bulky shape of the letterforms is meant to evoke feelings of strength and stability, like wooden ships of the past. I initially drew up the forms on a dotted sketchbook to give them a consistent width. I then digitized the letters using Illustrator and imported them into the FontLab program to make them functional. In two weeks, I was able to make a type library that included numbers, punctuation, and set kerning. This project taught me how to adapt to a new program and the many factors that are involved when creating a typeface.
